People travel from around the world to visit Colorado’s many hot spring pools for the ultimate relaxation experience. While the rules vary from hot spring to hot spring, some of these pools are clothing optional. Here are a few options to hunt down if that’s what you’re looking for.

1. Orvis Hot Springs

Orvis Hot Springs is a clothing optional hot spring and spa is located in Ridgway, Colorado, just down the road from Ouray and Telluride. They also offer the full resort experience, including massages and lodging.

2. Strawberry Park Hot Springs

An iconic destination in Steamboat Springs, Strawberry Park Hot Springs is considered to be one of the finest hot springs in the state. It’s got picturesque pools, a local feel, and it’s the perfect place to relax those muscles after a long day of skiing. However, keep in mind that the “clothing-optional” aspect only comes into play after dark at this destination. Minimal lighting during this time creates an intimate setting in a natural environment. Children are not allowed after dark.

3. Mountain Air Ranch

Located 20 miles southwest of Denver, Mountain Air Ranch is a full-blown nudist resort. While it offers pools, hot tubs, and spas, it also includes 10 miles of private mountain trails and hosts events like body painting.

4. Dakota Hot Springs

Found in Penrose, Colorado, Dakota Hot Springs consists of one large, relaxing pool. If you want to go clothing optional here, make sure you visit on the right day. Suits are optional Wednesday through Monday, but required on Tuesdays. Check the website before your trip to make sure this hasn’t changed since publishing.

5. Desert Reef Hot Spring

Home to a large sunning deck and a natural waterfall, Desert Reef Hot Spring is in Florence, Colorado, close to Cañon City. This is another clothing-optional hot spring where the day you visit will impact the experience – suits are required on Friday. It’s also worth noting that Desert Reef Hot Spring has strict policies set up to ensure the “tranquility and safety of [their] guests,” including a rule that non-member men must be accompanied by a partner (male or female) if they’d like to attend.

6. Valley View Hot Springs

Part of the nonprofit Orient Land Trust, Valley View Hot Springs offers a wide variety of hot spring experiences, from natural rock ponds to concrete pools. This clothing-optional destination views nudity as natural and allows nudity throughout the entire property. It you’re planning a visit here, they recommend making a reservation first as spots are limited and fill up quickly on weekends.

7. Conundrum Hot Springs

Located in a high-altitude setting at 11,200 feet, you’ll have to work if you want to reach Conundrum Hot Spring. It’s an 8.5 mile hike up rugged terrain. We encourage you to camp if you’re making the trek (permit required). Also, keep in mind that this hot spring is unofficially clothing-optional. People tend to strip down here due to it’s remote location and lack of oversight. If you’re planning on doing this, check out the area’s laws and regulations regarding nudity prior to doing so, and as always, be respectful of other guests.
