House fire severely damages Lakewood home Wednesday

A house fire broke out early Wednesday morning in the 4700 block of South Ward Way in Lakewood, according to West Metro Fire Rescue.
Crews responded to the house fire shortly before 1:30 a.m., Wednesday.

The family’s dog alerted the sleeping residents inside with its barks and woke them up. The residents were able to escape from the burning building, however, the dog is missing, according to West Metro Fire.
The fire started outside on the back porch, spreading to the house and burned through the floor in the family room, causing extensive damage to both the first and second floors.

Heat exposure to a neighbors house caused vinyl siding to melt as well.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
