The 6-day ‘thrill ride’ road trip around Colorado with roller coasters, canyon swings, and more
From being swung through canyons to flying down a mountain on an alpine coaster, Colorado offers a wide variety of unique and thrilling rides.
Here’s a six-day road trip that’s sure to appeal to thrill seekers:
Day One: Estes Park Aerial Tramway
Begin your trip to Colorado’s most thrilling rides at the Estes Park Aerial Tram. This tram whisks riders to the summit of Prospect Mountain for a bird’s-eye view of Estes Park. According to Visit Estes Park, the tram is one of the few European-style cable cars operating in the U.S. and has carried more than 3 million people to the summit since 1955.

Day Two: Mind Eraser
Continue to the Mind Eraser at Elitch Gardens in Denver. The suspended looping roller coaster is one of the amusement park’s most thrilling rides, with loops and twists that swing and flip riders.

Day Three: Terror-Dactyl Canyon Swing Ride

This canyon swing sits on the edge of a 200-foot cliff of Williams Canyon at the Cave of the Winds Mountain Park in Manitou Springs. Riders will be dropped off a platform over 150 feet into the canyon at nearly 100 miles per hour.

Day Four: Royal Rush Skycoaster
After being hoisted up to the top of a 100-foot tower (with incredible views of the bridge, Royal Gorge, and surrounding area), riders will fly 50 mph through the air, momentarily dangling 1,200 feet above the Arkansas River on the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park’s Royal Rush Skycoaster.

Day Five: Forest Flyer Mountain Coaster
Enjoy this thrilling mountain coaster as it winds 3,400 feet around Vail Mountain. The ride is part of Epic Discovery, Vail’s Mountaintop Adventure Center at the top of Eagle Bahn Gondola.

Day Six: Cliffhanger Roller Coaster
Finish up your road trip at the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park and ride the Cliffhanger Roller Coaster, billed as the highest-elevation, full-sized roller coaster in North America. The roller coaster is perched at an altitude of 7,160 feet and hugs the side of Iron Mountain. The ride’s cliff-side curves and drop-offs are sure to satisfy thrill seekers.
Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park has even more exciting thrill rides, including the Defiance Roller Coaster (which has a 102.3-degree freefall) and the Giant Canyon Swing that launches you at 50 mph over a 1,300-foot cliff edge.
