Colorado just got a new massive horse sculpture – and this one comes with a mountain view
Everyone in Colorado is likely well-aware of Blucifer, formally called Blue Mustang and standing 32 feet tall outside of Denver International Airport with its glowing red eyes. That said, a new giant horse has now been welcomed to the Centennial State scene.
Per reporting from the Colorado Springs Gazette, a horse sculpture named “Belle” was recently erected in the new Percheron planned community, which is located on the city’s northeast side near East Woodmen Road and Banning Lewis Parkway.
The sculpture of the Percheron draft horse was created by world-renowned Scottish artist Andy Scott and it stands 15 feet tall, weighing 5,000 pounds.
Scott is no stranger to creating horse-themed art, with Colorado Springs Gazette’s Jennifer Mulson reporting that he’s perhaps best known for a piece called “The Kelpies” – a pair of 100-foot-tall, 300-ton horse heads in Scotland, also dubbed the largest equine sculpture in the world.
Those who have traveled to Breckenridge since 2014 may have also seen Scott’s work – he created the Ullr sculpture that stands there as part of the town’s annual Ullr Festival.
