RTD soliciting rider input on transit changes as free MallRide returns

The Regional Transportation District is asking the public for comments on proposed service changes that would take effect in January 2026.
The plan is part of the agency’s ongoing effort to improve reliability and match service levels to current travel patterns, according to a news release. The agency has also restored the free MallRide — now back in full service following the years-long 16th Street reconstruction project.
The free MallRide shuttle operates from 5:21 a.m. on weekdays until its final loop from Union Station at 1:19 a.m. The 1.2-mile route between Union Station and Civic Center Station stops at every intersection, providing a roughly 15-minute end-to-end trip. As part of the RTD network, buses arrive every few minutes during peak periods and connect major bus and rail lines at both ends.
RTD’s proposed service changes, to be detailed October 15 on its website, are part of the agency’s system optimization plan. The adjustments aim to improve on-time performance and efficiency while responding to traffic congestion, seasonal demand, and economic conditions. Updates are set to take effect Sunday, January 4, 2026, and could include route, schedule, or frequency revisions to its services.
Public comment runs from October 15–30. Customers can submit feedback online by completing the online survey available at www.rtd-denver.com/service-alerts/service-changes, or by sending an email to Service.Change@rtd-denver.com.

The agency reviews its system three times a year. Officials said the process has become more significant since remote work and e-commerce began reshaping how RTD meets travel demand.
