Boulder police arrest suspect in hockey stick assault, seeking second person of interest
Boulder Police Department officers arrested a man who allegedly assaulted a bicyclist with a hockey stick on Baseline Road last week.
Taylor James Rose, 36 of Arvada, faces charges of second-degree assault after he allegedly hit a male bicyclist with a hockey stick while on roller blades in the 2700 block of Baseline Road just after 7 p.m. on Oct. 23, according to a news release from the City and County of Boulder.
The victim was riding his bicycle when he was attacked from behind, he told police, according to the release. He was not seriously injured in the incident and declined medical treatment.
Several media outlets identified the victim as Nathaniel Ellis, the secretary of the campus’ Turning Point USA Chapter, according to a Facebook post from the group. A video posted by Front Range Anti-Fascists, an activist group, showed Ellis saying that he was “actually racist” and advocating to deport Black people to Africa.
Authorities arrested Rose after following up on several leads and community tips in the case Thursday morning, according to the release. Arvada Police, the FBI and Boulder Police detectives assisted with the arrest.
Investigators are now seeking a second person of interest in relation to the attack, the release says. The man was seen roller blading through the University of Colorado Boulder campus near Rose, putting up flyers right before the assault took place.
