9 hospitalized in Commerce City after carbon monoxide alarm
Nine people were in the hospital Wednesday after high levels of carbon monoxide were reported at a Commerce City home, according to the South Adams County Fire Department.
First responders, at around 12:46 p.m., were called to a carbon monoxide alarm with reported illnesses near 69th Place and Olive Street, Adams County fire officials said in a post on X.
“Crews detected high levels of carbon monoxide within the residence,” the fire agency said.
Crews helped evacuate the home. Officials said nine patients were transported to the hospital for medical evaluation.
The South Adams County Fire Department is investigating what led to the carbon monoxide exposure.
Carbon monoxide, created through burning fuels, is an odorless gas that is hard to detect. It has no taste or color. Exposure to carbon monoxide can lead to dizziness, muscle weakness, vomiting, confusion, shortness of breath and loss of consciousness. Long exposure can lead to death.
