Denver experiences driest November in four years, eighth driest in city history

To say Denver residents experienced a dry November puts it mildly. It was not only the driest November since 2021, but the eighth-driest November since weather records began in 1872.

The National Weather Service released its monthly weather summary for Denver on Tuesday and it showed that only 0.09″ of precipitation was recorded at Denver International Airport in November. That’s less than the thickness of a dime, credit card or heavy gauge guitar pick.

Precipitation was only recorded on three of the 30 days in November as well: Nov. 20, 21 and 29.

Most of Colorado was also rather dry, especially the I-25 urban corridor from Castle Rock to the Wyoming/Colorado border, as well as in the northwestern, northeastern and southeastern corners of the state.

The exception was in the southwestern corner, where average levels of precipitation fell in November.

Here’s a look at Denver’s driest Novembers in the city’s weather history, with four of the driest Novembers having occurred in the 21st century:

  1. Trace – 1899, 1901 and 1949
  2. 0.01″ – 1939
  3. 0.03″ – 1917
  4. 0.04″ – 1904 and 1905
  5. 0.05″ – 2003
  6. 0.07″ – 1903 and 2021
  7. 0.08″ – 1874
  8. 0.09″ – 2025
  9. 0.10″ – 1896
  10. 0.12″ – 2013

Overall, the city has recorded about average precipitation through 11 months of 2025, with 15.05″ recorded at the Stapleton weather station in north Denver.

Further east, 15.46″ of precipitation has been recorded at DIA from Jan. 1 to Nov. 30 in 2025, however, DIA’s rainfall of only 0.09″ inches in November was 0.55″ inches below normal.

A dry three-month trend, similar to fall 2021, could be developing. October’s recorded precipitation at DIA of 0.14″ was 0.85″ below the average of 0.99″.

Recorded precipitation during the October-December 2021 time period at three Front Range cities:

  • Boulder recorded 0.17″ in October, 0.07″ in November and 0.42″ in December 2021. This led up to the conditions that fueled the Marshall fire in December of 2021 that tore through Louisville, Superior, and unincorporated Boulder County, torched more than 1,000 homes and businesses, and killed two people.
  • Cheesman recorded 0.05″ in October, 0.10 ” in November and 0.07″ in December 2021.
  • Fort Collins recorded 0.20″ in October and 0.26″ in November and 0.55″ in December 2021.

Recorded precipitation during the October-November 2025 time period at the same three Front Range city’s sites:

  • Boulder recorded 0.67″ in October and 0.04″ in November.
  • Cheesman recorded 0.07″ in October and 0.05″ in November.
  • Fort Collins recorded 0.50″ in October, 0.07″ in November.

The NWS also showed it was considerably warmer in November too.

The average mean temperature in Denver was 45.1 degrees, which was 5.7 degrees above the average median of 39.4 degrees.

The average maximum temperature was 59.9 degrees in November, which was seven degrees above the average maximum of 52.9 degrees.

The average minimum was 30.3 degrees, which was 4.3 degrees above the average minimum of 26 degrees.

A new record high of 83 degrees occurred on the Nov. 2, which also was a new record high for the month.
