Denver police officer arrested on suspicion of assault during domestic disturbance
A Denver Police Department officer was arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of a simple assault in relation to a domestic disturbance.
Cody Haggard, who has been with the department since 2024, was arrested by Arvada police on suspicion of a misdemeanor offense, according to a Thursday news release from DPD. Haggard was most recently assigned to District Four patrol.
Because the offense is a misdemeanor, Haggard will be moved to an off-line assignment until the case has been adjudicated, according to the release. Once that happens, authorities will conduct an administrative review of the incident, a process that includes the department, the Denver Department of Public Safety and the Office of the Independent Monitor.
The case is the fourth arrest of a Denver-area law enforcement officer in the past three months.
An Aurora police officer was fired on Monday after his own domestic violence arrest the previous week. In October, a Denver Sheriff’s Department deputy was arrested on suspicion of menacing and child abuse in Colorado Springs.
At the end of September, a Denver police officer was fired after repeatedly asking a domestic violence victim out on a date. That same week, a Denver deputy was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a former county jail inmate.
