Air Force women snap losing skid behind monster performances from Jayda McNabb, Milahnie Perry
Jayda McNabb grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds and Milahnie Perry returned to the lineup with 27 points as the Air Force women snapped a four-game losing streak with a 61-56 victory at Fresno State on Saturday.
The road win comes after the Falcons (9-12, 3-8 Mountain West) had dropped seven of their last eight and after they trailed by as many as 12 points to the Bulldogs (10-13, 4-8).
McNabb’s rebounds included seven on the offensive end. The junior added six points and a steal.
Perry, the program’s No. 2 scorer in its NCAA Division I era, missed the most recent game after an unspecified violation of team rules. She returned by hitting 11-of-20 shots, including a layup with 35 seconds left that stretched Air Force’s lead to five
Fresno State had only eight players available and faded down the stretch. It led 38-26 early in the third quarter before the Falcons took charge. The Bulldogs hit just 1 of their last 15 shots.
This was the only matchup between the teams this season, so the tiebreaker belongs to the Falcons if Mountain West seeding between the teams is knotted.
Senior Emily Adams added 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting for Air Force. Junior Keelie O’Hollaren hit just 2-of-13 shots but led the team with seven assists.
