Colorado to Italy | Mullen grad Dale O’Blia carries Olympic torch, broadcast info as competition opens
Dale O’Blia, a Mullen graduate from Denver now wrestling at Princeton, carried the Olympic torch Monday through the streets of Beramo, northeast of Milan.
Participating as part of Podium34, a program connected with the Utah 2024 organizing committee, O’Blia was selected as a 2024 Daniels Scholar.
O’Blia won four Colorado High School Activities Association state championships at Mullen. He was invited to train at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, where he was part of USA Wrestling’s Elite Accelerator Program.
O’Blia was selected for the Daniels Fund in the Rocky Mountain West, which includes Utah and Colorado, as he “exemplifies the life-changing benefits of access to youth sports.”
The flame will cover around 7,500 miles on its 63-day journey, with 10,001 individual torchbearers.
“We had the opportunity to recommend an individual, and Dale was an easy choice for us,” said a spokesperson for the Denver-based Daniels Fund, which is named for the late Bill Daniels (a sports television pioneer and owner of the ABA’s Utah Stars).
