Denver could challenge record-high temperature on Monday
Near-record warmth is on tap in Denver on Monday, forecasters said.
The National Weather Service in Boulder calls for a high of 72 degrees under partly sunny skies on Monday out at Denver International Airport, the city’s official weather monitoring station, but that could tick up a couple of degrees warmer.
“The record high of 74 could be tied this afternoon,” the weather service said in a post on its official X account.
The record of 74 was last reached in 2022. The average high for March 2 in Denver is 50 degrees, according to weather service archive data.
Meteorologists said conditions continue to be very dry and breezy along and south of Interstate 70 and out across Colorado’s plains, which means “near-critical” wildfire risk. This includes the southern foothills, Palmer Divide and east central plains.
Some mountain snow could develop again Monday night, with rain hitting the lower elevations on Tuesday, forecasters said.
“Most precipitation stays north of the I-70 corridor, where 2-6 inches of new snow is possible in the northern mountains,” the weather service said.
In Denver, the rain showers are likely on Tuesday mainly after 11 a.m., forecasters said.
Looking ahead to the extended forecast, snow is beginning to look likely in Denver on Friday afternoon.
