Denver-area taco restaurant to close its doors after 15 years

Comida at The Stanley Marketplace to serve its final brunch service on Sept. 22

A Denver-area restaurant that spent 15 years offering its customers “peace, love, and tacos” will shutter later this month.

Comida at The Stanley Marketplace, a restaurant that has offered up “signature Mexican soul food”, will close its doors on Sunday, Sept. 22.

Owner Rayme Rossello first burst onto the front range’s culinary scene as a co-owner of Proto’s Pizza. In a heartfelt statement, she reflected on Comida’s culinary journey, expressing gratitude for the support received from both Stanley Marketplace ownership and the restaurant’s loyal customers.

“Stanley has been like a big bear hug most days,” Rosello shared in a Facebook post. “This decision was not made lightly and is one I have been working towards for the last few years.”

Initially started as a food truck in Boulder County, Comida’s menu features tacos, tostadas, and quesadillas made from scratch with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Comida was one of the 32 restaurants chosen as an initial entrant in the Denver Gazette’s 2024 Taco Tournament this past March.

Rossello did not reveal what business will take over Comida’s 3,500-square-foot space but relayed that Stanley Marketplace will make an official announcement in the coming weeks.

She said staff was notified of the closure last Friday. Rossello extended her deepest appreciation to the Comida staff on social media, describing them as the backbone of the restaurant and sharing hope for their future endeavors. As Comida prepares to serve its last meals, Rossello said she plans to reflect on the restaurant’s legacy through personal social entries over the next two weeks.

Comida’s last service will be brunch on Sept. 22.
