Video shows car driving down 16th Street Mall sidewalk, hitting other vehicles
Multiple civilians caught the situation one video
Someone was seemingly fed up with the 16th Street Mall construction that has marred the downtown Denver street since the spring of 2022.
A handful of Denverites were met with an after-dinner scare when a woman attempted to drive a vehicle down a 16th Street sidewalk section, crashing into another vehicle and popping multiple tires.
The vehicle began driving through a tight construction walk at the 16th Street Mall, according to a video posted on the AbruptChaos Reddit community by user Cyrpious. A passenger got out of the vehicle, asking the surrounding people to get out of the way as the vehicle tried to move through.
“I came downtown for the dinner, but I stayed for the driver,” the user titled the post.
The car squeezed into the fenced walkway, quickly popping two tires on parts of the barrier. The passenger — now outside of the vehicle — tried to convince the woman driver to move quickly and leave the sidewalk area. The car continued to lurch forward, plowing through the area and scratching the vehicle’s exterior.
Witnesses were concerned about a possible child in the vehicle, but the passenger claimed no one else was in the car.
The video cuts to the vehicle striking the back of another vehicle outside of the Cheba Hut at 1529 Champa Street. The car then drives back onto the sidewalk as multiple witnesses scream for the driver to get out.
One civilian attempts to open the driver’s door, punching the window. The car drives off, swerving down Champa St. and nearly hitting other vehicles. The passenger runs behind the car.
The Denver Police Department told The Denver Gazette that two hit and runs reports were made on the vehicle on Nov. 3.
According to the video, no bystanders seemed to be injured in the incident, however a few fences took hits.
No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
