Security guard shoots armed man in front of Aurora 7-Eleven, police say

Just after 9 p.m., police responded to a shooting in front of a 7-Eleven at 12085 East Colfax Ave.

An armed man died after being shot by a security guard in front of an Aurora convenience store on Saturday night.

The incident appears to be in self-defense, an Aurora Police Department spokesperson said Sunday morning.

Just after 9 p.m., police responded to a shooting in front of a 7-Eleven at 12085 E. Colfax Ave. There, police found a 36-year-old man wounded by a gunshot, according to police.

Authorities performed life-saving actions on the scene, then transported the man to a local hospital where he later died.

Preliminary investigations show the man allegedly pulled a gun on a security guard in front of the store, approached him from behind and pointed the gun at his head.

The security guard, a 38-year-old man, fought with the armed man for his firearm, then pulled out his own and shot the man once, police said.

Police took the security guard to the Aurora Police Department headquarters for further questions.

The investigation remains active.
