A Thule Group office will layoff 22 employees at its Longmont office later this year, according to a Worker Adjustment Re-training Notification (WARN) letter submitted to the state Wednesday.

The Thule Group corporate location in Longmont, 2420 Trade Centre Ave., has a total of 40 employees, according to the WARN letter. Of the 40, 22 will be permanently laid off starting in October this year, citing a closure as the reason for the layoffs.

Thule Group is a product development company that develops “safe, easy-to-use and stylish solutions for active families and outdoor enthusiasts,” according to its website.

Thule products include roof racks, roof boxes and bike racks as well as bike trailers and smaller items like luggage and strollers.

The company has about 2,600 employees worldwide and is headquartered in Sweden.

Employees being laid off include product managers, designers and developers, project managers, pattern designers, image and video managers, graphic artists, a customer service manager, logistics analysts and a program administrator, according to the letter.

The company did not respond to The Denver Gazette’s request for comment.

WARN letters are required by the state for any employers planning to lay off employees. Employers have to give a 60-day notice prior to the layoff. The intent of the WARN Act is to protect workers and families from the impacts of mass layoffs.
