The days of forgetting your driver’s license at home are over — almost.

The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles announced on Wednesday that residents can now add their state identification cards and driver’s licenses to Google Wallet — an Android mobile application that allows the storing of credit cards, event tickets, and other passes.

The mobile cards can be used at specific Transportation Security Administration (TSA) PreCheck checkpoints, including Denver International Airport. They are not considered a replacement for physical IDs but they serve as a “companion to the physical, plastic driver license or ID,” according to the division.

Colorado is one of the first states to implement the new technology. The first state was Maryland in June. Arizona and Georgia also adopted the tech.

“Colorado is leading the way in digital innovation to enhance customer service,” Colorado Department of Revenue Executive Director Heidi Humphreys said. Motor Vehicles is a division with the revenue department. “We are dedicated to revolutionizing how Coloradans experience time, convenience and security. Our mission is to make these fundamental aspects of daily life easily accessible to everyone in the state.”

Digital IDs can also be added to Apple Wallet for iPhone users.

Digital IDs that are added to Google Wallet are encrypted, according to Google. No one can access the ID or license unless their owners choose to share the information.

If individuals lose their phone, they can delete their ID from the phone through their Google Account settings, acting as a security failsafe.

To add an ID or license to an Android phone, open Google Wallet and select the “Add to Wallet” button. The app will then scan the ID card and ask for a selfie video to prove identification.
