Board of Douglas Co Commissioners release a statement about increased COVID-19 regulations

One day after the state moved their county to a stricter COVOD-19 level, the Board of Douglas County Commissioners responded to the enhanced restrictions Friday.

The board asked to state to reconsider the standards it uses in determining the restrictions, saying it should put more weight on severity since the restrictions have a negative impact on the economy.

“Our Board’s focus is on the health of our citizens and our economy, paired with a renewed request to a state decision-makers that they also consider actual severity (hospitalizations and deaths), a more accurate layer of science to enhance the (state’s Safer at Home Dial) metric’s validity, and which public health experts have continued to request,” the board said in a news release Friday.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment moved Douglas County from Safer at Home Level 1 to Level 2 on Thursday, after health officials reported an additional 828 cases over the last 14-days.

The new regulations affect restaurants, gyms, places of worship and team sports.

Restaurants can continue to have 50% capacity, but instead of allowing 175 people in a room, that number has reduced to 50. Gyms have also gone down from 50% capacity to 25%.

Denver will enforce tighter restrictions for restaurants, retail and offices, reducing maximum capacity from 50% to 25% amid a rise in coronavirus cases in the state in the past month.
