Denver man sentenced to 10 years for frightening road rage assault
Alberto Mota said it was a lane change accident but video showed otherwise.
A Denver man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for a road rage assault which sent a motorcyclist crashing to the highway, and broke his ribs, leg and collarbone.
Alberto Mota, 42, claimed that the incident was an accident caused by an unsafe lane change, but dash cam video from another vehicle on the road showed Mota’s F250 truck aggressively change lanes and shove into a group of motorcyclists and push them into a barrier, according to a news release from the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
One of the victims was thrown off of his motorcycle and tumbled into oncoming traffic, but survived the incident.
The road rage incident happened on southbound I-25 at mile marker 187 near Happy Canyon Road in August 2020.

Mota pleaded guilty to:
- Vehicular assault
- Two counts of felony menacing
- Child abuse
- Four counts of reckless endangerment
Mota’s daughter was in the truck with him when the crash happened, prosecutors said.
Deputy District Attorney Keegan Doheny said that Mota “had no regard for the safety of others,” and that “video evidence showed Mr. Mota intentionally ramming his pickup truck into a motorcyclist after swerving in and out of traffic on the interstate. There is no question in my mind that this act was no accident.”
Mota has multiple previous convictions for driving without a valid license dating as far back as 2001, according to records shared with reporters from the 18th Judicial District.
“He chose to endanger the lives of numerous people on the road that day because of his anger,” Doheny said in the news release. “Thankfully, with the dash camera capturing his actions on video, his attempt to blame the biker for the crash was not successful.”
