Thornton Police are actively investigating an overnight homicide.

Authorities responded to a report about shots at 1125 W. 96th Avenue in the west side of the city.

Officers located an adult male who suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Thornton Police Sgt. Tom Conner.

Investigators haven not identified a suspect as of Saturday afternoon, but officials say they believe the shooter and the victim knew each other.

"We don't believe this was a random shooting and that there is some sort of association between the shooter and victim," Conner said.

Anyone with information about the situation is encouraged to contact the Thornton Police Department at 720-977-5069.

The investigation is ongoing.
