Denver man convicted of murder in shooting death of Adams County girlfriend
The 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office convicted a 34-year-old man of murder Thursday in the 2021 shooting death of his girlfriend, according to a news release.
District Attorney Brian Mason announced the conviction of Jeffrey Aschenbrenner, 35, after a five-day jury trial in Adams County District Court, according to the release.
On Nov. 27, 2021, 43-year-old Monica Medina was moving out of the home along Picadilly Road in Adams County she shared with Aschenbrenner, according to the release.
Testimony and evidence shoed Medina and her father drove to a gas station and when they returned to the home, Aschenbrenner was waiting for them and fired three shots.
Medina and her father took off and Aschenbrenner followed them in his vehicle, according to the release. When he caught up, he fired into Medina’s car and hit her in the hip.
She later died at an area hospital.
On Feb. 17, an Adams County jury convicted Aschenbrenner of the following charges:
- First-degree murder
- Second-degree murder
- Second-degree attempted murder
Sentencing is scheduled for April 13.
“This was a deplorable and cowardly crime,” Mason said in the release. “The defendant’s actions took a life and destroyed countless others. I am grateful for the work of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office in investigating this case and for my team at the District Attorney’s Office for their work in securing this conviction.”
