One woman was killed and three others were injured in a double rollover crash Friday night, the Lakewood Police Department said.

Police said the two cars were traveling together westbound on C-470. At around 8:20 p.m., the cars attempted to turn onto a cloverleaf off-ramp to southbound U.S. Highway 285.

Both cars lost control on the turn and rolled several times, stopping on the service road to Bear Creek Lake Park.

The leading car had four occupants. One, an adult woman, was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. The other three sustained minor or moderate injuries and were transported to a hospital.

The second car had five occupants, none of whom were injured.

Interviews suggest the drivers misjudged the off-ramp speed while taking the turn. Police said they might have thought the off-ramp was straight rather than a cloverleaf ramp, adding that they appeared to be unfamiliar with the area.

There is no indication that the cars were racing or that either of the drivers were under the influence of drugs or alcohol, police said.

The investigation is ongoing. No charges have been filed at this time.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office after her family has been notified.

Officials from the Lakewood Police Department and West Metro Fire Rescue responded to the crash.
