Kile Chaca, 22, was sentenced to 14 years in prison for a 2019 shooting stemming from road rage, the district attorney’s office announced Tuesday.
Chaca shot a man five times on Aug. 25 in the parking lot of a Lakewood Walmart following a verbal altercation over a parking lot road rage incident, Lakewood police said.
A Lakewood police officer was on patrol at the Walmart when he heard gunshots. After following the sound, the officer found the 33-year-old victim on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was transported to the hospital and survived his injuries.
After five days of trial, Chaca was convicted of attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault.
This was the first felony jury trial held in Jefferson County following the lifting of COVID-19 court restrictions.
