The 22-year-old man who was in a stolen vehicle and dragged three Englewood police officers before being fatally shot has been identified as Caleb Jereme Grisenti, according to the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office.
Officers were dispatched to the apartment complex at 1401 E. Girard Place after a report of a suspicious vehicle. When they arrived, they checked the plates and learned it was a stolen vehicle, EPD officials said.
Police said they attempted to make contact with Grisenti, who was driving, and a female passenger, but they attempted to flee and in the process hit and dragged three officers with the car.
Officers fired at the vehicle and struck Grisenti. He and the three injured officers were taken to a local hospital. Grisenti was pronounced dead several hours later.
The passenger in the vehicle was taken into custody.
The 18th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team has taken over the investigation to conduct an independent assessment into the shooting.
Body camera footage of the incident will not be released to the public until the officers involved have been interviewed, EPD officials said.
