Police tape

The Fort Collins Police Department is investigating a homicide after the body of a man was found under a bridge Monday evening.

The body was found about 7:30 p.m. in the 4600 block of Mason Street, near the South Transit Center, police said.

Police said they immediately opened a suspicious death investigation because of the condition of the body. No details have been released about what the condition was. The investigation was promoted to homicide after an autopsy.

The Larimer County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity and cause of death after his family has been notified.

“We won't stop until we find out what happened to this man,” said police Chief Jeff Swoboda. “I urge anyone who may have been traveling near that area on July 4 or 5 to contact detectives about any people or unusual activity you saw. Your tip may be our best lead.”

No arrests have been made and no suspect has been identified.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Julia Chenoweth at 970-416-2645 or, to be anonymous, call Crime Stoppers of Larimer County at 970-221-6868. Information leading to an arrest is eligible for a cash reward.
