Denver Police arrest teen in fatal stabbing over hot sauce dispute

Police say stabbing occurred inside residence near the 2300 block of North Federal Boulevard

The Denver Police Department on Sunday arrested a teenage suspect who allegedly stabbed a man to death near Jefferson Park.

In a news release on Monday, police said they arrested George Vigil, 19, for allegedly stabbing a man inside a residence on Sunday evening.

The residence — not specified by police as an apartment complex or house — is located near the 2300 block of North Federal Boulevard, directly west of downtown Denver and near Jefferson Park.

At 5:21 p.m., police said officers responded to the location to find a man suffering from sharp force injuries. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to police.

Preliminary investigation shows the suspect and victim knew each other. The incident allegedly started from an argument that escalated into a fight and eventual stabbing, police said.

A probably cause statement from the case said Vigil came over to the victim’s house. Wanting to make a sandwich, Vigil argued with the victim over a bottle of hot sauce, which what sparked the fight, authorities said.

Vigil swung an arm toward the victim’s side, the witness told police in the probably cause statement, which said Vigil often carries “a switchblade type knife.”

Vigil, who is currently held under investigation for second-degree murder, had his first court appearance on Monday morning. No bond was allowed, according to police records.
