Colorado’s longest serving continuously active evening news anchor signed off for the final time on Thursday night.

Denver7 anchor Anne Trujillo made her final news broadcast at KMGH after nearly 40 years at the station.

“After much reflection, I have decided to step away from my role as evening news anchor in November,” Trujillo said in a statement on the station’s website. “It’s time for me to leave Denver7 and pursue the next chapter of my life — one that allows me the flexibility to pursue new passions as well as time with my family.”

Several Denver news outlets offered well wishes to the anchor, including Denver Gazette news partner 9News:

An Emmy-award winning journalist, Trujillo has been very active in the Denver community, volunteering for boards and nonprofit organizations and frequently serving as emcee for events. She is currently co-president of the Colorado Chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and is a member of journalism advisory councils at University of Colorado Boulder and Metropolitan State University.

Ahead of her final week at the station, Trujillo shared this longer farewell message on social media:

Trujillo joined KMGH in 1984 as a general assignment reporter. During her tenure, she was on the first flight to DIA and covered major stories such as the Columbine, Aurora theater and King Soopers shootings to the Democratic National Convention in 2008, and the three Denver Broncos Super Bowl appearances.

Trujillo was born in Santa Fe, N.M. and spent her elementary years in California before her family moved to Littleton, where she attended Euclid Junior High and Littleton High School. After attending Mesa College in Grand Junction, Trujillo finished her degree at CU Boulder.

Fittingly, Trujillo’s last story before signing off was this feature on History Colorado.

Trujillo stated that she will take this time to spend time with her family, including husband Mike, as well as several children and grandchildren before seeking out a “next adventure.”

“One thing’s for certain: I’m not leaving this beautiful state,” Trujillo said. “I am a Coloradan, and this is my forever home. I look forward to finishing strong during my last months at the station and to all the adventures beyond.”
