Two people were injured Saturday morning after an apparent explosion at a distillery in Estes Park.

Estes Valley Fire Protection crews responded to a report of an explosion at Elkins Distilling Company at 1825 N. Lake Ave., in Estes Park, just before 9 a.m., said Mike Richardson, a spokesperson for the department.

Crews arrived on scene within a matter of minutes and saw thick, heavy black smokes emitting from the rear of the building and observed the damage to the building and roof.

Firefighters quickly went inside the distillery and located two inside, who were transported to Estes Park Hospital. The victims' status is currently unknown, Richardson said.

Authorities originally reported three employees were injured, but now say there were only two.

The explosion led to a small fire within the building and crews deemed the situation contained within 30 minutes.

Currently an investigation into the cause of the explosion is underway, and Richardson said that foul play is not currently believed to be a factor.
