Pueblo City Council member Ray Aguilera was recently placed into hospice care due to declining health

A 14-year veteran of Pueblo City Council has been placed into hospice care due to declining health, according to a release from the mayor's office Tuesday.

Ray Aguilera, the city's fourth district representative, was recently moved from Pueblo to a hospice care facility in Denver to be closer to his daughter, according to the release.

Earlier this year, Aguilera suffered a heart attack during one of the council's work sessions on Jan. 25. He recovered in just a few weeks and "in true 'Ray' fashion, was back at the City Council dais almost a month later," officials said in a release.

Aguilera is known as an advocate for Pueblo's Bessmer neighborhoods and the Bessemer Holiday Extravaganza, which donates around 1,200 stockings, thousands of pounds of food and gift certificates to families each year.

City officials are encouraging any and all "Get Well" cards to be sent to City Hall at 1 City Hall Place.
