As of Wednesday evening, the U.S. Forest Service assumed command of Larimer County’s Pearl Fire, which officials say started Monday.
The most recent numbers show that the fire remains 5% contained and has burned 128 acres.

Several evacuation orders remain in effect.
People started calling 911 on Monday just after 11 a.m., alerting the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center that they were seeing smoke in the Crystal Lakes area. When firefighters from the Crystal Lakes Fire Protection District and Red Feather Lakes Fire Protection District responded, they discovered a fire approximately five miles northwest of Red Feather Lakes.

On Tuesday, the Larimer County Sheriff’s office said the fire originated on private property and was human caused. That afternoon, Sheriff John Feyen said his office has identified and spoken to the person who caused the fire but will not be releasing details as the investigation is ongoing.
