Here's one deal House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was able to get done with minimal negotiation.
The wedding of Ivy Getty, an heiress to the Getty Oil fortune, drew the upper echelons of "grand San Francisco society" for the three-day event that included a nuptial ceremony in San Francisco's City Hall and a reception at the Getty Mansion, Vogue reported.
In addition to Pelosi, who presided over the lavish wedding and whose congressional district is in San Francisco, politicians in attendance included California Gov. Gavin Newsom and San Francisco Mayor London Breed.
Though San Francisco has a mask mandate regardless of vaccination status at "large indoor events," the report notes that guests were asked to put on face coverings "before Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi entered the room and took her position at the microphone," according to the report. Photos published by the outlet show only some of the attendees. Guests were required to show proof of vaccination.
"Despite the architectural magnificence—and the panoply of state, with Nancy Pelosi officiating and Governor Newsom and Mayor Breed in attendance—the ceremony managed to feel extraordinarily intimate and personal," said Vogue contributing editor and wedding guest Hamish Bowles.
Actress Anya Taylor-Joy was maid of honor, and European royals attended the event.
Pelosi is working to pass President Joe Biden's Build Back Better agenda, which includes legislation that would move the country away from reliance on fossil fuels.
Newsom has been missing from the public eye after he canceled his trip to Scotland for the COP26 Climate Conference two weeks ago due to what his office said were "family obligations."
