Denver inmate found unresponsive, pronounced dead at Downtown Detention Center

A male inmate has died while in custody of the Denver Sheriff’s Office, according to authorities.
The sheriff’s office said the inmate was found unresponsive in a housing unit at the Downtown Detention Center on Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m., authorities said.
A medical emergency team was immediately dispatched to the scene and began administering life-saving measures, authorities said, adding the man was pronounced dead shortly after being discovered.
Per standard protocol in cases involving a death in custody, the Denver Police Department has initiated an investigation.
The sheriff’s office said limited details can be provided at this time.
The identity of the deceased, the cause of death, and notification to the family will be handled by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.
