This summer, the Colorado Tourism Office (CTO) is releasing a digital passport with prizes and discounts across the state. The passport program will celebrate Colorado’s 150th year in the Union and the United States’ 250th anniversary of signing the Declaration of Independence, and it will fully roll out in 2026. 

The new digital passport will allow tourists and residents to explore all 64 counties in Colorado by marking off destinations. Sites will include parks, local businesses, restaurants, museums, and more. Users will have the opportunity to complete challenges and earn prizes such as virtual points, discounts, and special offers. 

All tourists and residents will be able to access the passport online, for free. Once a user arrives at a place, they can check it off on the myColorado app or at myColorado.gov. There will be multiple themes available for different interests, such as music, outdoor recreation, and more. 

The project is a collaboration between the CTO and the America 250-Colorado 150 Commission, a state commission created by the legislature and housed by History Colorado. 

As Colorado’s tourism industry continues to grow, the CTO hopes the digital passport will encourage more visitors into the state. In 2023, visitation to Colorado increased by 3.6%, according to the CTO. They will release numbers for 2024 this summer. 

“Our hope is that this passport is that little push you need to gather your friends and family and go and hit a couple of those places on your list that you’ve never been to before,” said Jason Hanson, the chief creative officer and director of interpretation and research at History Colorado. 

United Airlines, the largest and most flown airline in Colorado, is the primary sponsor for the program. 

“We’re grateful to United Airlines for their generous contribution, which will help drive tourism and create economic opportunities across the state,” said Tim Wolfe, the commission co-chair and director of the CTO, in a news release.
