Traffic stop in Western Colorado leads to arrest and seizure of 60 pounds of meth bound for Denver
A traffic stop in Fruita, Colo. led to the seizure.
A routine traffic stop in Western Colorado on Oct. 15 led to the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of approximately 60 pounds of methamphetamine bound for Denver, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff, an investigator with the Western Colorado Drug Task Force conducted the stop at an Exxon gas station in Fruita near the intersection of Interstate 70 and Colorado State Highway 340 following a traffic violation.
During the investigation, authorities discovered that the large quantity of methamphetamine was headed to the Denver area for distribution.
Joe Guerrero III, 25, of Stockton, Calif., and Maria Magallon-Chavez, 30, of Lorain, Calif., were taken into custody and are currently being held in the Mesa County Detention Facility, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspects face charges of distribution and possession with intent to distribute more than 225 grams of methamphetamine, along with additional charges for importing large quantities of Schedule I and II controlled substances under special circumstances.
