Denver 9NEWS Parade of Lights set to close area downtown streets Saturday

The 50th annual parade starts at 6 p.m. at 14th Avenue and Bannock Street.

More than 40 illuminated floats will parade through downtown Denver Saturday evening, causing some traffic disruptions.

The 50th annual 9NEWS Parade of Lights is set to spread holiday cheer through downtown Denver Saturday evening, closing nearby streets as onlookers cheer for character balloons, marching bands and other local business floats.

The parade begins at 6 p.m. Saturday and will start at 14th Avenue and Bannock Street and travel through downtown along Tremont, 17th, Arapahoe, 15th and Glenarm streets.

Bannock Street from 14th Avenue to Colfax Avenue was closed at 6 a.m. on Friday, including bike lanes, and will remained closed until after the parade Saturday, according to a news release.

Bannock from 13th Avenue to 14th Avenue, Bannock from 12th Avenue to 13th Avenue and 14th Avenue from Cherokee Street to Broadway will close at 6 a.m. Saturday and remain closed until midnight. 13th Avenue, itself, will remain open until 3 p.m.

Streets throughout the entire staging area — bound by Delaware Street to the west and Broadway to the east, Colfax to the north and 12th Avenue to the south — will be closed from 2 p.m. until midnight.

The aforementioned streets that the parade will run down will be closed from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
