Denver weather: Cooler temperatures and wildfire smoke expected, warm temps for Broncos game

It will be a touch cooler today after our record high of 87 degrees in Denver on Saturday. By this afternoon, we should top out right around 80 degrees, which is still 10 degrees above normal for this date. The mountains will be well into the 70s and we’ll see a few places on the western slope get close to 90 degrees.

If you plan to attend the Broncos game make sure you slather on the sun screen and stay hydrated. By this afternoon, we have the potential to see areas of wildfire smoke filtering through the region, and it could be locally thick at times. You may even be able to smell it.

The new work week will start off with more of the same, including wildfire smoke. Highs will remain well above normal for this time of year with widespread 70s in mountains and 80s across the lower elevations, including Denver and the eastern plains.

All eyes are on the upcoming weekend because there are some indications in the computer forecast models that we may finally see a shift in our weather pattern. The data points to much cooler air working into the state along with a chance for some rain and mountain snow. That picture will become more clear in the next few days.

SUNDAY: Sunny and a tad cooler with areas of wildfire smoke, high 80. Smoky skies overnight, but quiet, low 49.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny and warm with areas of wildfire smoke, high 81. Smoke will clear somewhat overnight, low 49.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny and warm, high 83 (record: 85°). Quiet overnight, low 51.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny and warm, high 82. Partly cloudy overnight, low 50.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny and continued warm, high 84. Mostly clear overnight, low 53.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny and warm, high 83 (record: 87°). Mostly clear overnight, low 50.

SATURDAY: A potential pattern change! Right now we think it will turn cooler with isolated showers possible, high 75. Overnight rain showers possible, low 44.
