Wildfire grows to 585 acres in Lake County near Twin Lakes
The wildfire in Lake County south of Twin Lakes, Colorado has been burning for four days grew to 585 acres by Friday morning and only 5% contained, Lake County official said Friday.
The Interlaken Fire is contained approximately 5% on the northwest edge of the fire, National Forest Service officials said.
Investigators said an abandoned campfire had not been properly put out was the cause of the fire.
“Late evening (on) Thursday June 13th, there was some fire activity in the NW corner of the fire and firefighters worked into the night to ensure successful protection of the historical structures,” officials said.
“On the north side of the fire, the terrain is steep and full of dead and down lodgepole. The fire is moving slowly through the underbrush in this area, backing down toward Interlaken Trail where firefighters can utilize the trail as fire line and take direct action at the edge of the fire where possible.”
The weather Friday was expected to be partly sunny with a high temperature of 69 degrees, and winds increasing to 10 to 20 mph. There was a chance for showers and thunderstorms in the fire area with gustier winds possible.
Additional crews have been reporting to the scene and assisting in building additional fire lines along the west southwest and east edges of the fire. There are 241 personnel assigned to fight the fire as of Friday morning.

“Local search and rescue crews are assisting firefighters by utilizing boats to bring supplies across the lake to the fire area, and more helicopters are arriving to the fire with two Type 1, two Type 2, and one Type 3 helicopters available for the Interlakan Fire,” officials said.
