Colorado climber dies after apparent 20-foot fall in Boulder Canyon

The 41-year-old Golden man was climbing in the Rivera climbing area

A 46-year-old climber is dead after deputies said he appeared to have fallen 20 feet while climbing with family and friends on Sunday.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said it received a 911 text at 3:15 p.m. Sunday reporting a climber was injured after falling in the 33700 block of Boulder Canyon Drive.

Deputies said the Golden man was in the Rivera climbing area when he fell. He was unresponsive when rescue crews arrived and died from his injuries, deputies said.

A GoFundMe post identified the victim as Marc Horan, later confirmed by the Boulder County Coroner Monday afternoon.

“He was a doting son, a loving partner, and the most caring person to have in your corner,” Sarah Zubrin, Marc’s partner, wrote on GoFundMe. “He did not pass a wealthy man, and there are many expenses to laying him to rest.”

The GoFundMe had raised about $2,000 as of Monday morning at 10 a.m.

According to the GoFundMe, Horan slipped off a boulder leading to his fall.

Rescue crews brought Horan down to the road from the climbing area.

The Boulder County Coroner’s office will officially release the man’s name and cause of death.
