Arapahoe Basin and Keystone announce opening date for winter 2024-25

Keystone announced opening within minutes of The Basin's announcement.

Arapahoe Basin Ski Area and Keystone Resort in Summit County, Colorado announced they will open for the 2024/25 winter season on Saturday, Nov. 2., the resorts announced Thursday.

Arapahoe Basin will be the second resort open in Colorado and targets being the last to close, offering guests one of the longest seasons in Colorado. Keystone announced it’s opening within minutes of Arapahoe’s announcement.

Wolf Creek was the first ski area in Colorado to open on Oct. 22.

“Every winter at The Basin brings something new,” Arapahoe Basin COO Alan Henceroth said, “But this season, it’s all about delivering the A-Basin experience skiers and riders know and love—our mountain, our team, our vibe. This year will be no exception.”

Saturday’s opening date is Arapahoe Basin’s second latest opening date since snowmaking started in 2002. The Basin opened Nov. 9 in 2020.

Keystone is opening with 2 miles of skiing and riding on the Schoolmarm and Silver Spoon trails.

“We are thrilled to get back on snow at Keystone! Early season wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and dedication of our employees, and I am so grateful to be a part of this incredible team,” said Keystone Resort Vice President and General Manager Shannon Buhler in a news release. “There’s a lot to look forward to this winter.”

On The Basin’s opening day, skiers and riders can enjoy skiing and riding on High Noon, accessed via the Black Mountain Express. Opening day will also feature giveaways and donuts for our first guests in line, and a DJ from 8:30 to 10 a.m. The resort has plans to continue snow-making and opening more terrain as quickly as possible, starting next with Lenawee Face and Dercum Dash.

Opening day will not offer any beginner trails open, but the resort said it will offer learning terrain opening a few weeks from Saturday’s opening date.

Keystone’s opening day terrain will be accessed via the River Run Gondola, with skiing and riding off the Montezuma Express lift. At the end of the day, guests will download the River Run Gondola back to the base of the resort, according to the release. It’s open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Night skiing will be offered starting at 7 p.m. on select Friday, Saturdays and holidays starting Thanksgiving week.

Starting Saturday, Arapahoe Basin lifts will start spinning from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and be open and operating seven days a week for the remainder of the season.
