Up to 9 inches of snow could hit Colorado over upcoming days

More October snow is on the way to the Centennial State as multiple storms approach. While impacts should be relatively limited, some select peaks have a shot at seeing double-digit totals.

Mapping produced by the National Weather Service calls for much of Colorado’s mountainous region to get at least some snow through the morning of October 18, though totals should top out at about four inches during this period in most areas. That said, between eight and 12 inches of snow could be possible on some select peaks north of Rabbit Ears Pass. The area where these deeper totals could fall are quite limited.

This map depicts the ‘high-end’ snowfall forecast (10%) chance. The more-likely ‘expected’ snowfall scenario (80% chance) is similar in terms of areas hit the hardest, though areas that see minimal amounts could be a little bit less widespread in that prediction model. Map: NWS.

Meanwhile, Denver Gazette’s Jonathan Ingraham reports indicates that most of the snow depicted in the NWS report should land on Thursday. Short bursts of snow could follow on Saturday with additional snowfall expected on Monday. Most mapping shows that upcoming snowfall seems to favor the central and northern mountains.
