109 counts of animal cruelty filed after pets seized from home with ‘inches of feces’ and dead kitten in freezer
According to an update from the Northglenn Police Department, 109 counts of animal cruelty have been filed related to an investigation that came to fruition the north-Denver metro city in July.
On July 16, a search warrant related to suspected animal neglect and cruelty was executed at a residence near the Northglenn’s Wyco Park, with law enforcement discovering a large number of pets living in unsanitary and undesirable conditions upon their arrival. In total, it was reported that 117 surviving animals were rescued – 96 cats and 19 dogs. Two deceased animals were found at the residence, as well.

Reporting from Denver 7 indicates that the two deceased animals were found in a deep freezer at the home – a small dog wrapped in a blanket and an 8-week-old kitten in a Doritos bag. Feces was described to be piled up inches above the floor in some places, with smells of the scene said to be noticeable outside of the home and ammonia levels inside of the home at a point said to be four times the threshold that’s toxic for pets.
An October 21 update in the case indicates that 109 counts of animal cruelty were filed against Patti Joslin, 69, and Dakotah Joslin, 32. Eleven of those counts are felonies and 98 are misdemeanors.
“The Northglenn Police Department is committed to seeking justice for those who cannot speak for themselves,” reads a statement from the law enforcement agency. “Since July of this year, our officers, detectives, animal control officers and animal welfare partners have worked tirelessly on a high-profile animal abuse case that has deeply impacted our community.”
