Another on-slope altercation prompts deputy response at Colorado resort
Maybe it’s the lack of fresh powder, but skiers and snowboarders on Colorado’s slopes seem to be a bit hostile thus far this year, with another altercation at Keystone Resort resulting in a deputy response. News of this incident comes just days after an argument over right-of-way ultimately led to multiple people getting a court summons for disorderly conduct at the same ski spot.
The more recent incident started with a collision on the slopes that led to one person alleging assault. According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the incident after two reportedly skiers collided on a run. Following the collision, a male skier is said to have attempted to leave a female he collided with behind on the slopes.
The husband of the woman who was involved in the collision attempted to keep the man at the scene until ski patrol could arrive, and at some point “he inadvertently bumped into the man, who then accused the husband of assault.”
Once deputies arrived to investigate, multiple witnesses and the husband reportedly confirmed that no assault occurred. No injuries related to the collision or altercation were reported and no charges were ultimately filed related to the incident.
Much like the example from last week highlighted how ‘right-of-way’ works on the slopes, this incident can be used to highlight rules around what to do if a collision occurs between two or more resort guests.
Per the ‘responsibility code’ related to skiers and snowboarders, those who are involved in a collision or incident are instructed to share contact information with each other and a ski area employee. This duty is actually codified into law in a statute known as the Ski Safety Act, according to Bell & Pollock P.C. Failure to abide by these rules could result in a number of consequences, not to mention resolutions that may be established in a civil court should damages or injuries occur.
