Amid resort-closing strike, nearby ski spot offers discount on helicopter transfer in Colorado
News that Telluride Ski Resort would be temporarily shutting down operations amid a ski patrol strike shocked the industry earlier this week, with the indefinite Telluride closure set to start on December 27. On the heels of that news, another nearby ski area that’s set to open on the same day is offering a big discount.
Known for its expert-level hike-to terrain and heliskiing, Silverton Mountain – located about 9 miles southeast of Telluride as a bird (or helicopter) flies – is offering a 25 percent discount on guided skiing tickets and non-private heliskiing, including helicopter transfers from Telluride Ski Resort to Silverton Mountain. The deal is set to run from Silverton’s opening day on December 27 through January 25, but may be subject to being altered or ending sooner. The helicopter transfer makes travel between the two towns much faster – the driving route is about 72 miles, taking about an hour and 45 minutes.
The discount code to be used at checkout on the Silverton Mountain website is ‘SupportPatrol,’ with Silverton Mountain promising to donate to the Telluride Ski Patrol each time the code is used.
Find the Facebook post about this discount here and check out what Silverton Mountain has to offer here – note that all terrain at Silverton Mountain is for advanced-level skiers and snowboarders.
