Fire at Leadville cannabis and CBD dispensary prompts air quality alert, cancels outdoor recess for kids
On the morning of December 18, a structure fire broke out at Floyd’s, which the Leadville Herald Democrat describes as a “CBD And cannabis dispensary located on Poplar Street.” The first report from the sheriff’s office on the incident was published at 9:01 a.m., noting that various stores in the immediate area had been closed and that nearby homes were evacuated as a “precaution for public safety.”
A following report from the sheriff’s office that was posted about two hours later noted that an alert related to air-quality concerns due to the fire had been sent out to those within a half-mile radius of the blaze, with residents in the area encouraged to wear appropriate personal protection equipment and to limit outdoor exposure. Additionally, air quality concerns prompted the local elementary school to cancel outdoor activities and outdoor recess for the day.
According to the Leadville Herald Democrat, the fire was put out by about 12:15 p.m., but not before extensive damage occurred inside of the structure. The building was, however, still standing and those around it were not damaged. No injuries were reported and at last report, the cause of the fire remained unknown.
