Rural firefighters work together to save 30 dogs from hunting club blaze in Colorado
A scary situation unfolded on the plains of Calhan, Colorado last month, when on January 29, a fire broke out that burnt a hunting dog kennel to the ground.
While the structure was lost, a rapid response by volunteer firefighters of Calhan, Simla, Elbert, and Peyton departments saved the lives of 30 dogs, along with the rest of the Rocky Mountain Roosters hunting club facilities.
A GoFundMe has been started to raise a donation for the fire departments involved in the rescue operation with collected funds to be split between the four groups.
“Thanks to their valiant efforts, we live to hunt another day!” read a statement from Rocky Mountain Roosters, a bird hunting operation that’s been around for more than 40 years.
The GoFundMe was started six days ago and has already raised more than $9,000 for the cause.
