On its grand opening in 2015, Iron Mountain Hot Springs honored the past by charging 25 cents. That was the cost of admission to Sheriff Bob Ware’s Glenwood Health Spa in 1896. Yes, Glenwood Springs has a long history of commercial rejuvenation, with the Glenwood Hot Springs Resort currently the toast of the mountain town. As the area’s outdoor profile keeps expanding, Iron Mountain’s 16 pools aim to catch hikers, bikers, rafters and skiers wanting to unwind at the end of the day.

Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park also offers enough thrill rides and cave tours to wear out the whole family. Conveniently, the mineral-rich pools are nearby along the Colorado River. Visitors start in a lodge-style bath house and make their way to the heated concrete walkways that connect the pools.

One caters to group sizes, with 100,000 gallons of fresh water heated to about 94 degrees. Slightly above that is a cozier whirlpool kept hotter. Take your pick from any of the other dips ranging from 99 to 108 degrees and enjoy the views of the namesake mountain, along with the Flat Tops and Mount Sopris.

Rules: Suits required. No kids younger than 5, and children 5 to 13 must be accompanied by parent. No pets. Outside alcohol and food is not allowed. Smoking only at front entrance.
