10 great restaurants you’ve got to try in Vail

Vail has a variety of quality restaurants to match its international reputation for skiing and snowboarding. With everything from fine dining to casual spots to grab a bite after a long day on the mountain, Vail’s diverse restaurant scene is sure to offer up what you’re craving.

Here’s a list of 10 great restaurants in Vail:

1. Ludwig’s at Sonnenalp

In addition to its European buffet-style breakfast spread, the Ludwig’s experience includes dining in a beautiful, glass-enclosed terrace that overlooks Gore Creek.

2. Sweet Basil

Opened in 1977 and a longtime local’s favorite, Sweet Basil is one of the oldest restaurants in Vail. With its ever-changing menu it has stood the test of time.

3. Matsuhisa

Located in the center of Vail Village, Matsuhisa features Japanese seafood and a rustic urban setting. The restaurant has a stone fireplace, as well as outdoor fire pits. Signature dishes include Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeño, Black Cod Miso, and Whitefish Tiradito.

4. The Little Diner

Locally owned and operated, The Little Diner offers up breakfast classics like eggs Benedict, pancakes, omelets, crepes and more. They also make mostly everything from scratch.

5. Up The Creek

Nestled against the Eagle River with a creek side patio, Up The Creek offers American food. This restaurant is family-owned and uses locally-sourced and sustainable ingredients when possible.

6. Mountain Standard

Sister restaurant to Sweet Basil, Mountain Standard prepares most of their food using an open and live-wood fire. The restaurant’s menu includes New American fare and wood-fired cuisine. And don’t forget to try the oysters.

7. Westside Cafe

The Westside Cafe is an American restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, also popular for their Bloody Marys. Although it’s not located right in Vail Village, it’s only a short car or bus ride away.

8. Los Amigos

At the base of the mountain, Los Amigos provides Mexican food and margaritas. Its patio also has beautiful views of the slopes right next to Gondola 1.

9. Alpenrose

This German-Austrian inspired restaurant offers homemade pastries, beer, and wine. The Alpenrose also features a private ‘gondola dinner’ experience during the winter, during which guests can enjoy their meal in a gondola renovated for dining.

10. La Tour

Not only does La Tour have sophisticated French food, but a comprehensive wine list, as well. It is locally-owned and located near Vail’s shopping and central plaza, Solaris.
