Bear spotted in downtown Golden
A bear was spotted in Golden near the Colorado School of Mines on Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to an X post by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the bear found food in some trash that had been left out. When CPW staff arrived, the bear was hanging out in a tree. CPW planned to haze the bear when it came down from the tree, so it would be uncomfortable around humans and not return in search of more trash.
But according to the post, the bear didn’t cooperate at first. When the bear did finally come down from the tree, CPW staff scared the bear towards wilder spaces. However, the bear just climbed up another tree.
CPW enlisted the Golden Police Department to see if the unfamiliar noise from a drone would make the bear climb down the tree. The bear was only “slightly annoyed” by the drone so CPW blasted music at the bear, which didn’t work either. The bear finally came down at nighttime after most humans had gone.
CPW took the incident as an opportunity to remind people to keep their trash inside until the morning of trash day. The bear ate trash left out in the neighborhood the night before.
