City of Denver announces final round of e-bike rebate vouchers for 2023
If you’re a Denver resident who’s been eying the purchase of a shiny new e-bike, you better act now.
The final round of Denver’s e-bike vouchers for the 2023 calendar year is set for release on Tuesday at 11 a.m., Denver’s Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency announced earlier this week. The vouchers will be released on a first-come, first-served basis, and officials expect them to run out within about 10 minutes.
How much is the Denver e-bike voucher worth?
Any resident of the City and County of Denver can qualify for a $300 point-of-sale rebate on the purchase of an e-bike or up to $500 on an e-cargo bike. There is also an income qualified rebate option for Denver residents who make below 60 percent of the state of Colorado’s median income, below 200 percent of the relevant federal poverty level and below 80 percent of area median income. Those who meet the requirements can save up to $1,200 on the purchase of an e-bike, or up to $1,400 on an e-cargo bike with the rebate.
For a complete rundown of eligibility and which documents are required for either rebate, you can find more information on the city’s website.
Information on the Denver e-bike voucher program:
As of early November, city officials said 7,347 Denver e-bike vouchers have already been redeemed. Of the vouchers claimed, 47 percent have been used for e-cargo bikes and 53 percent for standard e-bikes, according to data provided by the City and County of Denver. Notably, 46 percent of these vouchers were claimed by income-qualified participants.
The city said it has also taken steps to make the program more accessible to those with disabilities and barriers to online access. So far, 17 vouches have been utilized for adaptive e-bikes and 233 redemptions have been claimed from partnerships with 52 community-based organizations to reach those with barriers to online access.
According to a 2022 report compiled by the City and County of Denver, Denver’s e-bike program has replaced 4.1 million gas-powered vehicle miles, reducing 1,447 tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually. Because of this, Denver estimates that residents are pocketing $1 million in fuel and maintenance savings.
The average redeemer of an e-bike voucher replaced approximately 3.4 car trips per week, according to the report, with income-qualified redeemers increasing this number to 4.8 — or approximately 40 percent more.
