Here’s a great chance to bicycle up iconic 14,115-foot Colorado mountain
Cyclists can access the Pikes Peak Highway early on two upcoming weekends for the ‘Pedal Pikes Peak’ event.
The Pikes Peak Highway will open to cyclists at 7 a.m. with no vehicle traffic until 9 a.m. on Oct. 5, 6, 12, and 13. Riders must bike single file in the right lane, wear reflective clothing, and have blinking lights on their bikes.
Food, beverages, and merchandise will be available at the summit starting at 8:30 a.m. Restrooms will be available along the route.
Organizers also suggest that participants carpool to the Pikes Peak Highway. There will be overflow parking in the northwest lot of the North Pole Santa’s Workshop if parking stalls near the gateway fill up.
For those unfamiliar with the Pikes Peak Highway route, it travels 19 miles and up more than 6,500 feet of vertical gain to the 14,115-foot summit of its namesake mountain. It’s full of steep grades and winding turns, and don’t forget – there’s no shortage of stunning views along the way. A trip up this route is sure to be exhilarating and strenuous.
Reservations are required and you can buy tickets for $20 here.
